Discover Bali's Hidden Gems: My Go-To YouTube Channels

Welcome to a captivating episode of Hey Georgie, where host Pete George shares his passion for travel, particularly his love for Bali and the stories that come with it. The episode opens with Pete recounting the evolution of the show’s name and his aspiration to establish a personal brand that resonates with creativity and inspiration. His journey reflects a broader narrative of finding one’s voice and the importance of connection in a digital age, especially through platforms like YouTube. Pete emphasizes the role of storytelling in travel, highlighting how his interactions with locals transform a simple vacation into a profound experience.

The episode's heart revolves around Pete’s recommendations for three YouTube channels that encapsulate the spirit of Bali: Wayne’s Fiasco de Gamma, Adam’s Sanur Diaries, and Krishna’s Bali with Krishna. Each creator brings their unique flair to storytelling, whether it's through vivid personal anecdotes or engaging cultural explorations. Pete admires Wayne, noting his exceptional storytelling ability and authentic connection with the Balinese community. The discussions serve as a reminder that the most enriching travel experiences come from genuine interactions and understanding the culture and traditions of the places we visit.

Through personal anecdotes and observations, Pete invites listeners to appreciate the beauty of Bali beyond its surface attractions. He recounts his photographic journey, capturing the essence of local life and the smiles of the people he meets. This approach underscores the idea that travel is forging connections and learning from others. As the episode wraps up, Pete encourages his audience to seek out these storytellers and engage with their work, reinforcing the message that travel is not merely about destinations but about the stories we collect along the way. In this way, listeners are inspired to embark on their journeys with curiosity and a desire for deeper connections.

Pete George:

Hi and welcome to hey Georgie.

Pete George:

I'm Pete George, host of the show and the channel and everything else and all that kind of fun and games where our motto is life, creativity, inspiration, all with a dash of my little bit of charm.

Pete George:

So all of you may have seen seen different incarnations of this show from the Pete George experience to photocaster to have.

Pete George:

And I've been trying to get heygeorgy.com web address for, for quite some time because that's what I've always wanted to call the show.

Pete George:

And it took me a little while to get it and now I have it, which is good.

Pete George:

So today's show isn't all about the hey Georgie bit, but that is the show.

Pete George:

So there we go.

Pete George:

That's the, that's the name of the show from here on in in its incarnations.

Pete George:

So today's show, as the thumbnail has said, is my go to websites for Bali.

Pete George:

Jane and I travel to Bali most years.

Pete George:

2025 is going to be the only time we've missed other than covert.

Pete George:

And we're doing a fair bit of travel in Australia.

Pete George:

So we'll do the same sort of thing with, with Australia.

Pete George:

But we're heading back in May.

Pete George:

2026 will be the year list that we get back.

Pete George:

So when I select YouTube channels that I want to watch, you've got to try to resonate with the people that they're educating you because that's pretty much what YouTube channels are all about, is to educate others.

Pete George:

That's how I see it.

Pete George:

None of this clickbait and mucking around stuff that people do, none of the negative stuff.

Pete George:

And this is where Wayne, Adam and Krishna all come in to their own.

Pete George:

As a photographer, I like to connect when doing the my photography with people.

Pete George:

One of the gifts that I do have and whether it's through the camera or interviewing people, I enjoy telling stories and educating people with stories.

Pete George:

And this is where I feel that from now on at 58, I can help others.

Pete George:

Whether it's to do with photography, whether it's to do with travel, because I've worked in the travel industry, whether it's from working from home, because I do that now and I've found all the highs and lows and everything that go with that, or whether it's to do with setting up a business and the ideas that go around that we're talking a little bit of politics.

Pete George:

That's what experience gives you and that's what I want to share.

Pete George:

And when you.

Pete George:

The first one I gotta talk about is Wayne now His show is this one, which is if you just go to heygeorgy.com forward/wayne, his channel is Fiasco de Gamma.

Pete George:

And the resignation there is that, in my opinion.

Pete George:

Wayne is a brilliant storyteller.

Pete George:

He connects with the people.

Pete George:

When you go to Bali the first couple of times, yeah, you're there for the bartering and the partying atmosphere and stuff like that.

Pete George:

But as you start to learn about Bali, the Balinese people and their culture, you will then change your attitude quite quickly.

Pete George:

And this is what Wayne does also.

Pete George:

Adam and Krishna, being a Balinese individual, they all tell a story in different ways and with different things.

Pete George:

So one of the things that over time is that when I go to Bali, I set myself a challenge every time to, you know, like, this is from a series of 20 faces of Sanur.

Pete George:

That's where we stay.

Pete George:

We stay at the top end or the northern end of Sanur, at the end of Jalan Templingen.

Pete George:

And we actually stayed the last time in Bali in Jalan Sindhu, which heads to the beach.

Pete George:

And we stayed at the Aquarius there, which I highly recommend as a property to have a look at fair pricing.

Pete George:

So when I take these images, I sort of, what I do is I walk around a little bit because we're normally there for three weeks, and you start to connect with the people that are in that kapong or the area or the Banja area that you live in, the way that culture works.

Pete George:

And we walked past this shop every day, they were always smiling and I just pointed at the camera when I went out to shoot some of the 20 faces.

Pete George:

She just gave me a warm smile and a thumbs up when I said, can I take your photo?

Pete George:

And that's, that's how it's done.

Pete George:

And Wayne, when we get to his website, is very, very similar in the way that he, he does his videos.

Pete George:

I'm not big on videos yet, but I'm getting there.

Pete George:

Now.

Pete George:

The other part to the Balinese is that they love to share their culture.

Pete George:

This was a festival, a beach festival or ceremony where they walked down Jalan Sindhu to a beach temple, which is the family temple for friends of ours that own a restaurant in Jalan Sindhu.

Pete George:

And because you build those relationships, they allow you to do things that normal tourists don't appreciate.

Pete George:

And I appreciate it having been a photojournalist for a long time and photographer for more time than I can poke a stick at.

Pete George:

And these are the images that you get when you go into your old photojournalist.

Pete George:

So these, this is the first one of the images, this whole series of them slowly getting through to put them up on the main website that I have, Peter George.com that I use.

Pete George:

So this one, just another one of the young gentlemen.

Pete George:

And what grabbed me with this, you can actually see me actually doing some work for a change, is that the beauty of Bali is that they embrace all the young people there, embrace the Western culture and still respect their own culture.

Pete George:

And this image sort of says it with the flashy sunglasses and the tattoo and everything like that.

Pete George:

But.

Pete George:

But he's still going to the temple and this is how everyone's raised there.

Pete George:

And if you go to one of Wayne's videos, he has a chat with a gentleman and he talks about how his family home has been in the family for over seven generations.

Pete George:

Quite a good chat.

Pete George:

And this is why I love Wayne.

Pete George:

Love him to death.

Pete George:

Here's another one, bit more older gentleman carrying the.

Pete George:

The white cloth down to the beach.

Pete George:

And I just snapped him real, real quick.

Pete George:

When I do do a lot of the photojournalistic, I have focus on spot and auto.

Pete George:

And that's why I got his eyes.

Pete George:

I just saw him coming and I sort of tracked him a little bit and then he looked up.

Pete George:

But the beauty of having all of this, the people still know how to have fun.

Pete George:

And this is just a young man that has his.

Pete George:

His restaurant on wheels and all the locals go there.

Pete George:

And when you chat and have a bit of a laugh, these are the sort of images that you come up with.

Pete George:

And this one also made it to 20 faces of Sanur.

Pete George:

So, as I said, Wayne's site is great.

Pete George:

And what I'll do now is I'll drop this down and we'll go and have a look at Wayne's side.

Pete George:

And the beauty of Wayne's side is that he starts them all the same way.

Pete George:

There's no.

Pete George:

No thrills or no big serious editing in.

Pete George:

In his videos.

Pete George:

He's got 75 there.

Pete George:

And it's all relatable to me and to a lot of people, I think, in the sense that when you listen to him interact with the people, he can speak Bahasa pretty, pretty well.

Pete George:

So they.

Pete George:

Yeah, the people just.

Wayne:

Good morning.

Wayne:

I'm still here.

Wayne:

It's good to see you.

Pete George:

So that's Wayne.

Wayne:

Some.

Wayne:

Some may remember Chon from a video a few weeks ago.

Wayne:

He was in another part of Ubud.

Wayne:

And I particularly like his sat sauce.

Wayne:

It's nice and thick and it's got a.

Wayne:

A very, very rich.

Pete George:

So as you can see, he's A narrator.

Pete George:

He's an orator.

Pete George:

He's a storyteller.

Pete George:

And just from the interactions that I've had through his YouTube channel, he's a very warm, open individual.

Pete George:

And hopefully if he watches this video that when I come back to Bali, that I can zip up to Ubud and follow him one morning and I'll do the stills and he can do the video and we can have a bit of fun because he's also a photographer as well, and he's shown a little bit of his photography work.

Pete George:

He's very abstract and takes in his environment and loves what he sees in his environment.

Pete George:

Now, the next one is Adam, and once again, just go to heygeorgy.com forward/adam.

Pete George:

And he's got a channel called Sanur Diaries.

Pete George:

Now, Sanur is where we stay, but he knows the area extremely well.

Pete George:

He's an expat as well, and he lives in Sanur.

Pete George:

From what I can tell, he enjoys his food and he's.

Pete George:

Him and his partner or wife go out and enjoy the food, and he'll go into different areas and show you different things.

Pete George:

For instance, he did a bus trip from Sanur to Ubud and showed you how to do that and the costs and everything like that.

Pete George:

He finds some great restaurants for all different levels of budget.

Pete George:

So he is another great one.

Pete George:

And get up.

Pete George:

Sonua Diaries.

Pete George:

So this is Adam's site.

Pete George:

He's given a bit of a refresh and some funky graphics with it, which is really, really good.

Pete George:

They're not long, just as similar as.

Pete George:

As Wayne's.

Pete George:

And he does some great work, as does Wayne.

Pete George:

And let's have a little.

Pete George:

Little bit of a look at what.

Susan:

Susan's taking us on a bit of a trek around town today to a restaurant which she reckons is pretty good.

Susan:

So let's check it out.

Susan:

So when we sat down, they gave us these little nuts.

Pete George:

You find them?

Susan:

I used to find them a lot back in the day.

Susan:

I haven't had them for a long time.

Susan:

They're basically roasted peanuts with kaffir lime and a bit of chili.

Susan:

And they're beautiful because you get lots of people who are in the know coming here.

Susan:

But it's really one of those edgy places that are a little bit alternative, do come here, but it's not generally very popular.

Pete George:

Okay, so a good narrator, orator.

Pete George:

He knows what he wants to do, he focuses on it.

Pete George:

And he also does like a little news channel every now and again with updates and find some places if you're thinking of Doing long term rentals and things like that.

Pete George:

So excellent once again.

Pete George:

So the last one is we've probably watched Krishna the longest when we heard that Bali was opening again, stumbled across him and Krishna took us through a journey like I think he did with a lot of people from when Covid ended in Bali to when it really opened up.

Pete George:

And you could see how decimated Bali was with not having tourists.

Pete George:

You know the amount of things that were closed down and now where it is today it's.

Pete George:

It's totally nutley change.

Pete George:

So here's Krishna once again.

Pete George:

Hey georgie.com and he's barley with Krishna, his channel so it's pretty, pretty cool.

Pete George:

And once again we'll get a little bit of christeners up because they've all given me kindly enough, they've all given me permission to use promote their sites which I've got no qualms doing because these are great people trying to do a great thing.

Pete George:

So here's a typical Krishna video.

Krishna:

Hello, good afternoon everyone.

Krishna:

Welcome back with me again.

Krishna:

Okay, so this time I'm here in Sanur area.

Krishna:

I want to walk around in Sanor and let's see the situations at the moment guys now is around at 5:30 so let's just walk around and let's see the situation.

Pete George:

So Krishna goes everywhere where Wayne focuses on Ubud and that surrounding area.

Pete George:

There's some also videos on India.

Pete George:

Adam is Sanur predominantly and he is very knowledgeable but he does go out and about.

Pete George:

Whereas Krishna will end up anywhere from Ubud to Ahmed.

Pete George:

Where else has he been?

Pete George:

Lombard.

Pete George:

Heaps and heaps of places, the typical ones, Kuda Leggin, Seminyak, Shangu Nusa Dua.

Pete George:

So all of those and some of them at walk, some of them will be on foot and then sometimes you'll stop and he'll eat at some very local warungs.

Pete George:

And the funny thing is to watch when he gets a real hot chili one he has a bit of a jump around but he keeps going and he keeps eating it.

Pete George:

So they're the.

Pete George:

The three sites that I go to.

Pete George:

So the first one is Wayne's fiasco, the gamma and just go all these links will be in the descriptions and everything like that.

Pete George:

When, when you go and watch the videos they'll be listed down below.

Pete George:

And then the next one is Sanur Diaries with Adam.

Pete George:

So it's just hey Georgie and Adam.

Pete George:

And then for a little bit of local we do, we love watching Krishna and that's Bali with Krishna.

Pete George:

So don't forget if you want to see all of the or he just hear the podcast side of things.

Pete George:

Just go to heygeorgy.com if you want to see all of the photography, read some blogs and things like that.

Pete George:

Then we just have petergeorge.com au so thanks for giving me your time today and listening as always and subscribe and like and share and all that kind of stuff.

Pete George:

And yeah so we're on Spotify, YouTube, Apple podcast so these videos specifically won't go out as a podcast because it's a bit hard to have people sort of see.

Pete George:

But we'll do a show from it but it's not that important.

Pete George:

But the important thing is that you let me know what content you want to me to keep pursuing.

Pete George:

I'll keep on doing this for forever and a day.

Pete George:

I'm in a position now health wise where everything's not going too flash so this is probably going to be a source for me to relax, enjoy and educate.

Pete George:

So the next video is going to be on more in depth of different photography from weddings to sports to and some of the old sports haven't done sports for a while.

Pete George:

he last sport event I did was:

Pete George:

But I'll give you an insight on how I actually go about and shoot different scenarios and things like that.

Pete George:

But all I can say is bettergeorge.com hey georgie.com and thank you for your viewership.

Pete George:

Have a great day and as always say when you wake up be the best version of yourself.
